National Press Club of Denmark

National Press Club of Denmark

The National Press Club of Denmark is the oldest press organisation in the country. Den Danske Publicistklub, as the organisation is locally known, was founded in 1880. The Club has always worked both on a professional and a social level. Its board arranges frequent press conferences with important national and international personalities.

One famous tradition is the lunchtime press conference on the day after every Danish election or referendum. Members and their guests meet both the winners and the losers. At times this involves a joint press conference with both the outgoing and the incoming prime minister, when reporters have the chance to put across their immediate opinions and comments.

More leisurely activities include theatre shows and plain old partying.

The working language at events is normally Danish, but obviously exceptions occur. Everything is on the record unless otherwise stated.
